"Dr. Jorge Arciga: Dental Tourism, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
I met Dr. Arciga a year ago through one of his patients. He and his family visit annually from Alaska for their dental care. His motto is “I can either send my dentist on vacation or take one myself.” That’s just what he does. He and his entire family vacation and take care of their dental work. Unbeknownst to me there is an industry of dental tourism and Dr. Arciga’s patients have traveled from as far away as Sweden for his dental work to this little harbor town of Cabo. In Oregon it is just a short flight to visit a place we have been going for twenty years. My eyes were opened to this option for dental work. Once I had the removal of my orthodontics I began my search for a cosmetic dentist that would give me the end result I desired while not putting us in debt, this would have taken us years to recover from. After my introduction to Dr. Arciga I felt reassured that this was a right path for me. Last year I dropped in on him and received a full hour consultation without a fee. He was thorough as he made sure that all my questions were answered.
Dr. Arciga and I had regularly communicated for a year via email. His English is clear. He is an excellent communicator. I had questions regarding types of products: veneers versus crowns, zirconia versus porcelain and he explained in-depth the different options, stating the durability and the cost for each item. We discussed each product exploring what would be the best option for me according to my wants and needs. We finally opted for 16 porcelain crowns, four with metal linings. This was the final stage of my four year dental plan which I most looked forward to and dreaded at the same time. Dr. Arciga’s knowledge and regular contact took away my apprehension. Upon Dr. Arciga’s recommendation I allotted up to 11 days to accomplish this task.
Sunday was day one, I was the lone patient that day…being given his full attention. Before any work was started we spent a good hour talking about my expectations and the color that I eventually opted for. My biggest fear is that I would have “refrigerator white” teeth that would look more like dentures than my actual teeth. The consultation time was invaluable. It assuaged my fears and reassured that my expectations were clearly communicated. Dr. Arcigo places the greatest emphasis on having your personal preferences met. In the end the procedure was complete in eight days with five office visits. Dr. Arcigo prefers to uses injections. The patient I mentioned earlier opts for no injections, saying that Dr. Arciga is so very gentle that he prefers not to be numb afterward. Although Dr. Arciga is gentle, I went with the injections. There was a good amount of chair time but I was done within eight days. Something that would take months in the states.
Every tooth feels like it has always been there. No rough spots, no protrusions. It has taken me a good week to adjust to the aesthetics of my new smile. It is what I hoped for- a better version of me. I love my new teeth. I am proud to share my smiles and thrilled I made the right decision for me.
Please remember this is Mexico. The comfort items i.e. views, plush furniture, music, bevy of every conceivable magazine are all items we take for granted and are built into the bill. You won’t find these items here but the savings are reflected in the bottom line. I was thrilled to pay one fourth of what it would have cost in the states. Dr. Jorge Arciga is a kind-good man beyond being a good dentist. He wants nothing more than to see you happy with your results. People travel from all over to have their work done by him and are glad they did so- myself included.
