Philippine Transportation
The Philippines consists of 7,017 islands and to say that it is spread out is an under statement.

Taxis are plentiful and a more expensive form of transportation in the Philippines.  The same rules apply in the Phillipines as other countries in Asia Pacific:  make sure you use a metered taxi, know where your destination is located.

Are divided into two categories:  air conditioned and non air conditioned buses. Buses are generally used for longer trips within the Philippines vs. Tricycles & Jeepneys.

Are in essence motor cycles with side cars attached.  They are generally available in all major cities and the least expensive method of transportation.

Probably the most popular form of transporation in the Philippines.  Jeepneys were modified by jeeps left over by the Second World War and are distinctively a Philippine tradition (some would say an icon).  Flag down a Jeepney just like you would a taxi.

Pump Boats
Used as a main mode of transportation from one island to another. While many of the boats used for transportation purposes in the Philippines do not have motors, most modern pump boats do include larger motors that make travel more efficient. Tourists who visit the Philippines will often find that island-hopping includes taking a ride in a pump boat or two.

Philippine Communication

Public phones are still plentiful but like everywhere they are slowly growing harder to find as people adopt cell phones.  The preferred methods to communicate with home are:
  1. buy a prepaid SIM card an insert into your cell phone for cheap domestic and international calls
  2. use the internet to call home via Skype orGoogle Chat
Internet access
The Philippines has plentiful options to access the internet through your hotel, dental offices or cyber cafes.  You will not need to go far to find free wifi access or paid internet service in the Philippines.
