What is the difference between porcelain and acrylic dentures?

The porcelain dentures are much longer lasting than acrylic dentures and have the best quality aesthetics and natural appearance. However, they are much heavier than acrylic dentures and can wear down the gums and bone faster than acrylics. The acrylic dentures are less expensive, lighter, and have acrylic teeth which are less cosmetically appealing. However, since they are much lighter, they can be more comfortable for some patients to wear and do not wear down the gum and bone line as quickly as the heavier porcelain dentures. A standard denture contains 12 teeth.
