Dental veneers are wafer-thin laminates that are fitted to the front of your tooth. They are quick and easy to place with the minimum of discomfort.
By far, the advantages of dental veneers is their capacity to disguise a variety of dental problems, such as discolored, uneven or damaged teeth – and even gaps. They are so adaptable that they can be used as an alternative to orthodontic treatment – and for adults especially are a lot less embarrassing than wearing braces.
Dental veneers, unlike other procedures such as crowns, only require a minimal amount of your tooth to be removed so it will fit, just a tiny sliver from the front of the tooth.
Dental veneers are quick to place but they can last for years if looked after properly. They can be made and fitted in just a few days, and as the procedure is not painful it shouldn’t affect the overall enjoyment of your stay in Guadalajara.
Most of the time the procedure takes a couple or three days unless your clinic has CAD/CAM technology where you may be able to get your veneer while you wait. You will visit your dentist on the first day and impressions of your teeth made, which are sent to the lab. Veneers will be made during the next couple of days. On your final day, you will go to have them affixed to your teeth.
The tooth or teeth is prepared by your dentist by removing a thin layer of enamel from the front of the tooth. This isn’t painful but you may experience sensitivity to hot and cold until the new veneer is fixed. Impressions are made and sent to the lab.
When the veneers are ready you will return to the dentist to have them fixed. They are bonded permanently in place with a light-sensitive resin which hardens and forms a very strong bond. You will be able to eat most things that you did before as they are very hard-wearing.
