There are a few different laser teeth whitening systems on the market and the application procedure is slightly different for each, but all are completed in a little over an hour.

Prior to the procedure commencing your teeth will be cleaned thoroughly to remove stains. Then, the soft tissues in hour mouth will be covered so that they don’t come into contact with the whitening gel once it has been applied to your teeth.

Once the gel has been applied, the laser will be used to activate the bleach in the gel. After a few minutes, the gel will be removed. Dependent upon which system your dentist uses the gel may be applied and removed a further two times. Once the procedure is complete, your dentist will remove all traces of the gel and clean your teeth again. You should have immediately noticeable whiter, brighter teeth.

At-Home Whitening Kits: You will need to book two appointments at the dentist for this. In your first session, the dentist will take impressions of your mouth, which are sent to a laboratory where trays to hold the lightening gel that fit over your teeth are made-to-measure. After several days, you can return to your dentist to pick up the trays and whitening gel. 

The dentist will demonstrate how to apply the gel to the trays and fit them over your teeth. They are usually worn for a few hours a day, or overnight, for several weeks, or until you are happy with the whitening result. Additional gel can be obtained from your dentist at home.
