Heading H&L Studio Dental is Dr. Hugo Contreras who is recognized as one of the top specialists in veneers, smile design and smile makeovers in the region. Having undertaken part of his training in Brazil, he is registered with both the Brazilian Association of Dentistry and the Mexican Association of Dentistry.
He works alongside Dr. Genesis Uribe, who, after graduating with his dental surgeon’s degree in 2017, has undertaken additional certification in orthodontics, oral surgery, ortho-implants and orofacial harmonization.
H&L Studio Dental provides state-of-the-art equipment, such as a 3D oral scanner which is the base for the most modern dentistry. The center also has its own dental laboratory, facilitating rapid delivery of prosthetic devices, such as crowns and veneers–a time-saving benefit for patients short on time and not wanting to make several trips back and forth from the US.

We made a Saturday appointment for my son at Studio Dental in Matamoros driving from Houston, and I came with him since I speak the tiniest bit of Spanish and have visited Mexico several times. The details of the visit were easy to arrange because the contact (a young woman named Steph) was really easy to work with. Her written English is quite good, and she provides intelligent customer service. Crossing the border into Mexico was easy. I give five stars to everything except comfort, and that's because the chairs in the waiting room lack padding and my son's work took two long hours, but Steph brought me a padded chair from another room. My son needed a whitening procedure (big job presentation coming) and it worked very well. He had a thorough cleaning and one whitening treatment there, and brought home the custom trays and bleach gel with detailed instructions about its use (in Spanish, but the technician would have used her phone translator if I hadn't understood). On Monday back home, their native-English dentist, who had not been on duty the day of our appointment, called me to review my understanding of those directions. It was a wonderful fast visit at an *extremely* affordable price. We stayed at Best Western, which is well furnished and spotless and very close to the dental office, and visited a market close by the Matamoros Cathedral (I had planned to go to the six o'clock mass, but there was a big formal wedding in progress), where we were surprised by the vibrancy of the vendors and customers--whole families out enjoying a mellow Saturday evening, nothing but friendly smiles all around. Matamoros is very sweet, who knew? We left quite early the next morning, a Sunday, at the border by six coming back into the US, and I recommend that you come early, too, as the wait can be formidable later in the day. The crossing was pleasant and polite from beginning to end. We'll be back!
