Mr.

June 2015

I arrived for an 8AM appointment and found that not many dental folks are there in the off season. I waited for 20 minutes and then was helped. I had been in touch via email to get an appointment and prices beforehand. So just a reminder to all, summer is vacation time since all the Snow birds are gone. That did not stop them though, I had no wait time, they found the available dentist and was examined and x-rayed and given the diagnosis. I was down there to get prep work for 6 implants and need extractions and bone grafts put in. I was sent over to Cat Scan provider down the block and got that, very fast, for the dentist to assess the need and timing for implants since my back gums had receded a bit I spent all day there, since they had to call in the dentist to do the extractions. It was a nice air conditioned office and clean facilities. So the wait was fine with me. I received the needed work, and paid with check, and said I would let the bone grafts settle in, about 4-6 months and then contact them in summer 2016 about the implants that would be done first, and then later the crowns. THey were very good to work with , and professional. It is best to arrive EARLY, since in Mexico, time slows down. If you are a snow bird, do the same. And email them ahead for that. I recommend them.

Dr. Angel was the best and most informative dentist I have ever seen. He was very thorough and repeated what he was doing and why are each step. I would highly recommend him and this clinic to everyone. Even tho there was a mutual scheduling error and the clinic was to be closed the next day for Good Friday, Dr. Angel came in to work on just me.

Without hesitation I would recommend the Alamo Dental Group in Alamo Alley, Los Algodones, Mexico. When I first arrived in February 2014 they provided a free clean and x-ray exam. Needing extensive dental work due to 30 years of neglect, they provided a scope of work on a white board dry erase chart that follows you from room to room, depending on procedure required. Edgar the front man, and Oscar the owner both have a command of English, as do most of the technicians. Everything was explain and you are given a small color coded pocket version of the white board to peruse or proceed. They also record your payments on this folding business card sized parchment. You may need a better copy for your accountant for tax purposes. Work was scheduled and carried out in an orderly fashion, moving from room to room very expediently... months of North American appointments compressed into days and weeks. Dental tools come in sealed packages and you get a fresh set every time. Pictures and x-rays are displayed split screen on monitors in every work area to visually compare the two. Ingeniously keeping costs down where low tech meets high tech is a Mexican forte; example being taking pictures with a mirror and an SLR. Sometimes during the heavily booked months they may overbook due to walk in traffic and it's Mexico...so relax. Bring a tablet, they have free Wifi. Nice restaurants close by for great food and cervesas. Comparing Canadian costs vs Alamo charges: you save from 60-75%. For example a fellow across from me in the waiting room had a quote in Ontario for slightly more work than I had done, for $140,000. Alamo would be $23,500 US. Last year the dollar exchange rate was more favorable so if you plan a trip, hoard US $ when at or near par (whenever that'll happen!) I returned this February and had my 22 of my 28 temporary crowns replaced by permanent Zirconians, 3D cut by laser printers... fit is perfect on most but since I am returning for the other 6 ( due to having had a couple molars removed and needing to heal) will get adjusted. I had 15 root canals performed and can tell you the guy that does them is amazing... two or three at a time in a day and no pain! No implants so can't speak to them. Border parking is $6 US /day, passport in hand you just walk over. Take $50 cash for prescriptions but they take Visa. Broke my glasses and on my way to a dental appointment stopped in at an optical place. They tested my vision, re-prescribed progressives and two sets, one sunglasses, awaited me several hours later after my dental appointments. No anti glare available because of the 3 week wait. $349 US for the 2 pair. I may order my anti glare lenses ahead this next trip since they have me on computer. They take credit cards. Algodones Optical has a few outlets in town, I went to the one near Alamo Alley. Waiting in line to get back across the border is a chore, but the street vendors sell bottled water and other entertaining paraphernalia , there is a canopy overhead for shade and conversion with fellow returnees ample.

I had extensive dental work performed at Alamo Dental; crowns, root canals, extraction, deep cleaning, etc. for 1/3 of the cost estimated here for the same work done in Sacramento. It was well worth the 1300 mile round trip ($200 in gas) to Yuma for the work; high quality, timely, courteous staff, personal attention to each patient, etc. The dental equipment in the offices is comparable to what is available in Sacramento dental offices. The office staff stayed late to complete extra work required in order for me to return to CA early the next morning. Friends from our congregation have gone to Alamo Dental for years and all have had the same positive experiences, no surprises; honest and ethical dental services. I personally had absolutely no worries about my security or safety in going to Mexico for the dental work and I would recommend this office to anyone. In 2012 I went to a local dentist for my semi-annual cleaning and after the x-rays and exam I asked the dentist about the quality of work previously done; his professional answer was, "high quality workmanship on the crowns, fillings, and root canals". I chipped another tooth yesterday and am planning to go to Alamo Dental for another crown and additional dental work again this week (Dec 26, 2013).
