The quaint, unassuming town of Mosonmagyaróvár welcomes thousands of foreign patients every week thanks to its location right on the border with Austria and Slovakia, with these two countries forming Europe’s very own “ Golden Triangle ” along with Hungary.

Known also as simply “Ovar”, the town also sits in Northwestern Hungary’s picturesque Gyor-Moson-Sopron county, a region characterised by glorious rolling green hills and valleys, quaint riverside villages and several important historical sites dating back almost two thousand years.

As for the town itself, expect plenty in the way of amenities, with dozens of hotels, restaurants, cafes and shops catering to the 150,000 or so dental patients who visit every year.

How Do I Get to Mosonmagyaróvár?

There are three main ways to get to Mosonmagyaróvár:

• By car via Vienna, Bratislava (both under an hour) or Budapest (around two hours)

• By train (you can find rail tickets from either Vienna or Budapest here )

Can I Fly to Mosonmagyaróvár?

If you do not live in Austria, Slovakia or Southern Germany, the quickest and perhaps the cheapest way to reach Mosonmagyaróvár would be to fly into one of these two nearby airports:

• Bratislava International Airport—35 minutes (50 km) via M15 and E65/E75

• Vienna International Airport—1 hour (70 km) via A4

Flying to Budapest is another option; while the onwards journey from the airport is considerably longer (at two hours), this may be a more convenient option as it would negate the need to cross international land borders.

There are currently direct flights to Hungary, Austria and Slovakia from the following airports in the UK and Ireland:

• Luton

• Birmingham

• London (Stansted, Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton)

• Edinburgh

• Manchester

• Bristol

• Dublin 

Flights are also available from most major European cities, including Munich, Berlin, Paris and Zurich.

How Much Do Flights Cost?

Whether you plan to fly into Bratislava, Vienna or Budapest, return flights with budget carriers should cost no more than EUR 100, and often a lot less when booking in advance.

Flying with national carriers such as Austria Airlines or British Airways costs between EUR 100–200 (return).

Where to Stay in Mosonmagyaróvár?

You will find a good range of three and four-star hotels listed on price comparison sites like Expedia, Agoda and Booking.com. Most modern double rooms in the town cost in the region of EUR 40–80.

For around EUR 100 per night, we would recommend the Aquasol Resort or Hotel Lajta Park; both of these are four-star hotels with average ratings of around 9.5/10 from previous guests.
