Thinking about a trip to Hungary to take advantage of the country’s famously inexpensive dental care? Then it might be a good idea to have some fillings done at the same time—helping you stay on top of your oral health for about a third of the price back home.
Find trusted clinics and transparent prices for treatment in Sopron with Dental Departures.
One treatment that always proves popular—or perhaps “necessary” for lack of a better word—is dental fillings.
Families without an NHS dentist can save up to 70% on a filling in Sopron, which can quickly add up to a few hundred pounds compared to going private back home.
Fillings are used for restoring the structural integrity of a tooth following damage or decay, particularly when cavities are present on the surface of the tooth.
In other words, they are used to “fill in” the tooth, protecting it from bacteria and corrosive substances, like sugar.
Fillings at our dentists in Sopron can be made from:
Dental amalgam (a mixture of metals)
Composite
Ceramic
Zirconia
Gold
For patients in need of fillings but not wanting to travel all the way to Hungary just for this treatment (which we get—it wouldn’t make much sense), our partner clinics offer a range of other dental work on which you can make more substantial savings.
Popular additional treatments include:
Professional cleaning, polishing and scaling
Dental crowns
Veneers
Bonding
Inlay/onlay
Sealants
Dental bridges
Diagnostic tests, such as CT scanning
Night guards

Most patients will find that they only need to stay in Sopron for the day, with the fillings procedure generally taking an hour or less (or slightly more when more surfaces are being treated).
The dentist will begin by checking your mouth before removing any decay with a specialised hand drill. This may be done under local anaesthetic.
After being cleaned, the cavity is filled with the chosen material, which may be warmed up to harden and expand to create a tight seal. To complete the procedure, the filling is filed down for comfort and aesthetic purposes.

We are continuously adding to our list of reputable providers in Western Hungary; see our range of dentists in Gyor-Moson-Sopron here.
Sopron has long been a favourite destination for Austrian, German and Swiss patients who can simply drive across the land border to their appointment, much in the same way as the millions of Americans who drive into Mexico every year for more affordable dental care.
And while you won’t find many late-night tequila bars and one-dollar-nachos here in Western Hungary, the city does boast an eclectic range of historical and cultural attractions—more than enough to pass the time in-between appointments.
Some of the top things to do in and around Sopron include walking tours of the ancient Roman city, climbing up the legendary fire tower for a 360-panorama of the city, vineyard and distillery tours, thermal spa retreats, antique shopping and hiking around the nearby Lake Neusiedl.

Located close to the Danube’s “Big Three” of Budapest, Bratislava and Vienna (forming Central Europe’s so-called “Golden Triangle,” Sopron can be reached in under an hour from Vienna; one-and-a-half from Slovakia; and just over two hours from the country capital of Budapest.
With a major train station along the main route connecting Hungary to Austria, Sopron is also easy to reach via rail from essentially anywhere in Europe… just at long as you’re not in much of a rush.
If you’re currently in the UK and thinking that Sopron is only for Austrians (thanks to its close proximity), you might be mistaken.
While the city doesn’t have its own airport, there are incredibly cheap flights available all year round to Vienna, which is less than 50 kilometres away (and just a EUR 20 train ride).
In fact, the lower prices of treatment in Sopron, as well as cheap accommodation costs and lower price of living might all actually make a dental trip to Western Hungary more affordable than choosing Budapest (particularly if you are planning for multiple treatments in addition to fillings).
There are five airports in the region, including:
Vienna (48.5 km)
Bratislava (70.5 km)
Graz (115.4 km)
Budapest (202.4 km)
Zagreb (220.8 km)
Budget carriers like Ryanair or EasyJet often have prices around the EUR 50 mark for return tickets from London to Vienna/Bratislava/Budapest.
Do check Skyscanner as far in advance as possible to compare prices and get the best rates.
Most of the accommodation options in the centre of Sopron (close to our partner dental clinics) are priced between EUR 50–100.
For those on a budget, single or hostel-style rooms can be snapped up for as little as EUR 20 per night; at the other end of the spectrum, you will discover some impressive thermal spa resorts and boutique hotels dotting the surrounding region and priced closer to the EUR 200 mark.
