The Ultimate Guide to All on 6

Get the revolutionary All-on-6 dental implant technique and replace a whole arch of teeth in less than a day!

The technique creates an alternative solution to traditional dentures or removable implant dentures, and provides a long-term remedy to the problem of missing teeth.

What are All-on-6’s?

All-on-6’s are a teeth replacement system that refers to ‘all’ the teeth in either the upper or lower jaw being replaced with a bridge supported by ‘six’ dental implants.

The dental implants are inserted into the jaw bone, eventually integrating with the bone in a process called osseointegration. Once this has happened, the implant provides a strong, sturdy support for false teeth – either a single crown or multiple teeth in a bridge.

Are All-on-6’s a suitable dental tourism treatment?

  • Yes. As you would imagine, the treatment is an expensive one for people living in North America, Europe and Australasia – with prices averaging around US $27,000 (CAN $37,000; UK £22,000; EUR €25,000; AUS $38,000; NZ $39,000). Prices abroad can be up to two-thirds cheaper, which is reason enough for many people to seek out alternative options overseas.
  • The beauty of the All-on-6 system is that implants and teeth are fitted in one day – which is why the procedure is also known as ‘teeth in a day’.
  • Downtime is minimal. Patients can have their new teeth fitted in a matter of hours.
  • All-on-6s are likely to be suitable for patients with bone loss who cannot have traditional implants without undergoing a bone graft procedure.

What is the procedure for All-on-6’s?

1:            Assessment

Your dentist will conduct a thorough examination, taking x-rays and scans to assess the anatomical structures in your mouth and the extent (if any) of bone loss. If you are suitable for the All-on-6 procedure, impressions will be made of your mouth to send to the Laboratory who will manufacture your new teeth.

2:            Treatment Day

The procedure can be carried out under intravenous sedation or local anaesthetic. It typically takes around 2 hours per jaw. If you need to have any extractions, these can be done at the same time, and the areas around the extraction sites cleansed thoroughly.

The dental implants will be inserted into the jaw. Four will be placed in the front of the jaw, and two, placed at an angle, at the rear. A temporary arch of teeth will be placed, which is lighter than a permanent restoration, and will allow your mouth time to heal.

3:            Permanent Restoration

After a few months, you will return to your dentist to have your permanent teeth fixed.

Do All-on-6s need any special care?

Although your dental implants will be sturdy when they are first placed, you will need to give them time to ‘bed-in’ and integrate with your bone, which takes a few months. Be careful with what you eat – hard, chewy stick toffees or crunching ice cubes probably won’t be the best ideas!

Your new teeth won’t require any additional special care – unless you weren’t following a decent oral hygiene regime before! To maintain your new teeth you should brush and floss twice daily and visit your dentist as regularly as is recommended.

Look after your new teeth properly and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t last you for years.

What are the costs of All-on-6s around the world?

In the United States, All-on-46 cost, on average, $28,000

At a Mexico dentist, they cost $9,000

In the United Kingdom, All-on-6s cost £24,000

At a Thailand dentist, they cost £10,000

In Australia, All-on-6s cost AUD $36,000

At a Bali dentist, they cost AUD $11,000

What about the quality of dental care abroad? Is it reliable?

Globalization has ensured that standards of dental training throughout the world are now very similar. New techniques are adopted quickly across the world as cross-border training and quick dissemination of information reaches all corners of the globe.

Many dentists have trained in other countries and there are professional organizations, such as the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, that dentists with a particular specialty may have affiliations with, confirming they have a particular skillset.

Dental clinics may also have affiliations, particularly with regard to hygiene and safety standards, and may specify they are signed up to the International Organization for Standardization, or similar, which is reassuring.
