The process is much the same, whether you require full dentures (if you have no teeth), or partial dentures (if you still have some teeth left, or just need one or a few replacing).

If you need any teeth removed, or have recently had teeth extracted , you should be aware that your gums will need time to heal afterward.

Dentists typically recommend that you wait at least three to four months before you have your permanent denture fitted. If you do have extractions, a temporary, light-weight denture can be fitted and worn during the “healing phase”... but just remember no hard or sticky foods, and no chewing gum!

Although a temporary measure, many people have worn theirs for years so don’t worry they will be too flimsy and break. If you are getting teeth extracted here, you will need to return to the dentist in Giza for your permanent dentures.

If this is a problem, an easy solution is to have your extractions carried out by a dentist at home (three to four months prior to arriving in Cairo).

At your first appointment with your Cairo dentist, your mouth will be examined, and diagnostic tests may be carried out. After a consultation with your dentist where your options will be discussed with regard to the preferred materials for your dentures (all have their own pros and cons) the dentist will take impressions of your mouth.

These are sent to the laboratory where your dentures are tailor-made, and you will return to see your dentist after a few days once your dentures have been received from the lab.

Dentures come in all shapes and sizes, made from different materials, such as full acrylic or acrylic base with porcelain crowns (generally the more expensive option).

Overdentures are also an option: these can be semi-permanent; affixed to mini-implants but still removable as and when needed (or advised).

How Long Will I Need to Stay in Giza for Treatment?

You will generally need to make two visits to the dentist in Giza for measuring up, having your new dentures fitted and, if need be, checking in for a follow-up appointment before you head back home.
