If you need a root canal, you will probably already know it as your tooth will already be very painful. The treatment essentially involves removing infected pulp from the root of a tooth and filling the cavity. A tooth can become infected due to:
Decay
Injury
Fracture and chip
As a result, the tooth will become painful, with swelling around the gums often spreading to the face and neck.
During a root canal procedure in Madrid, an endodontist will remove any infected pulp and nerve tissue; the empty cavity is then thoroughly cleaned and filled. A dental crown may also be used if the cavity is too large to fill or in cases where the tooth has been structurally compromised and needs reinforcement.
Contrary to popular belief, the most painful thing about a root canal is the period before undergoing treatment, rather than during it. The procedure is performed under local anesthetic so patients won’t be in pain. In some cases, dentists in Spain may also offer different sedation options to make you feel relaxed and comfortable.
A root canal procedure generally takes between 30 and 90 minutes, depending on which tooth is infected, and how much pulp needs to be removed.
However, you should plan a stay of several days in Madrid as often a follow-up appointment is required.
During this second appointment, the dentist will assess your tooth and/or complete any repairs with a filling or dental crown. In the cases where a dental crown is needed, treatment may take slightly longer, although many clinics do have in-house laboratories for creating these kinds of prosthetics while you wait.

Prices depend on which tooth is being treated (i.e. molar, premolar, anterior), with additional costs when a crown or post-core treatment is required.
