The Ultimate Guide to Dentists in Tbilisi

Last fact-checked: 8 July 2021

Georgia’s dental tourism sector is beginning to take off, with the characterful capital of Tbilisi offering great value for money, high-quality care, and a host of exciting things to see and do while on holiday: a winning formula to attract any prospective patient!

Below, find out how much you can save on a range of treatments, as well as travel tips and info, recommended Tbilisi clinics and booking details.

Visiting Tbilisi as a Dental Tourist

As the capital of “mind-blowingly gorgeous” Georgia (The Guardian’s words, not ours), Tbilisi’s eclectic architecture often feels more reminiscent of the streets of Barcelona or Italy rather than brutal communist-era blocks, and its impressive valley location affords spectacular scenery all around.

Tbilisi’s distinct “hipster culture” offers a thriving cafe, bar and restaurant scene, as well as underground techno clubs that draw comparisons to Berlin 20 years ago.

At the center lies the Old Town; here, you can cross the impressive Peace Bridge over the Mtkvari River to find galleries, museums, trendy wine bars, the ancient Narikala Fortress and other relics of the past that date back to the 5th century.

Reasons to choose Tbilisi for dental care:

  • Undergoing treatment at our dentists in Tbilisi costs approximately 50%–70% less than in the UK (which we’ll examine in further detail in the next section).

  • The flight takes just under five hours from the UK, roughly the same as to Turkey, Georgia’s southern neighbour.

  • Our partner clinics in Tbilisi are kitted out with modern technology, with digital screening, panoramic x-rays and in-house laboratories facilitating rapid turnaround times for treatments like veneers and crowns.

  • Tbilisi is a fantastic destination for a city break with affordable accommodation options and good transport links to different neighbourhoods.

  • Diverse landscape to explore outside of the city, with Switzerland-like valleys, snow-capped mountains, rolling landscapes, vast lakes and a dramatic coastline overlooking the Black Sea.

  • Average temperatures in the summer months are around 30°C, with the peak time to travel from May to September.

  • Georgia’s dental education programme lasts for five years, after which dental surgeons often go on to specialise in areas such as implantology, orthodontics and maxillofacial surgery at a Master’s or Ph.D. level.

From simple dental check-ups and preventive work to more complex restorative procedures to rehabilitate the function and appearance of the teeth, you will find high-quality care in Tbilisi at a price you can afford when using Dental Departures.

How Long Will I Need to Stay in Tbilisi for Treatment?

The time you need to spend in Tbilisi for treatment will depend on the extent of your treatment, the number of appointments required and whether your chosen clinic has an in-house lab and specialised equipment for manufacturing prosthetics, like veneers or crowns.

    As a rough guide:

    • Everyday dentistry, like fillings and teeth whitening, will only take an hour or two (one appointment).

    • Dental restorations and custom cosmetic dentistry, like crowns and veneers, will take at least two appointments, either on the same day or a few days apart.

    • Dental implant treatment often requires two separate trips to Tbilisi as the gums will need around four months to heal following the initial surgery.
