With prices as high as £800 per tooth in the UK, dental veneers are often seen as a luxury treatment reserved only for the rich and famous, especially when 10 or even 15 are required for a full smile makeover.

But you can opt for a more affordable alternative: fly to Hungary as a dental tourist and have your veneers made and fitted in the town of Mosonmagyaróvár for a whopping 70% less than back home.

That said, veneers are purely a cosmetic treatment; much like teeth whitening, any underlying problems should be addressed first and the teeth and gums should be in good health before proceeding.

To give you an idea of just how popular “Ovar” is for dental tourism, this town of just 35,000 people welcomes over 150,000 Austrian patients every year, with several hundred dentists practising here to meet the demand.

That number is on the rise, too, as more and more Brits, Germans and other Europeans are discovering how easy and cheap it is to fly into nearby Bratislava or Vienna before heading across the border by car or rail.

How Do I Get to Mosonmagyaróvár?

Those based in the neighbouring countries of Austria and Slovakia tend to drive across, with a modern highway linking the town with major regional cities.

Another option is to arrive by train, as the town sits on the main route from Budapest to Vienna.

Can I Fly to Mosonmagyaróvár?

For those coming from further afield, the best way to reach Mosonmagyaróvár is by flying into nearby Bratislava or Vienna and then arranging onward transport from there:

• Bratislava International Airport—35 min (50 km) via M15 and E65/E75

• Vienna International Airport—1 hr (70 km) via A4

Of course, another option is to fly into the country’s capital of Budapest. This is a little further away (at around 200 km east), although visitors may find it easy not having to negotiate international land borders.

From London, return flights to Bratislava, Vienna and Budapest cost between EUR 50-100.
