The Ultimate Guide to Dental Implants in Murcia

Introduction

Last fact-checked: 20 July 2021

Spain is one of the top destinations for low-cost dental implants, especially for Brits looking to skip the long NHS waiting lists while saving potentially thousands on a renovated smile.

And for a laid-back break in the sun (without the usual tourist crowds), Murcia is an excellent choice, with implantology specialists here charging up to 70% less than dentists back home.

About Dental Implants in Murcia

As a member of the European Union, we ensure all of our Spanish dentists follow strict regulations on hygiene and safety protocols. Educational standards are high, too, with dental surgeons having graduated from top Spanish Universities as well as others abroad, such as in Great Britain.

We also guarantee that all implant dentists in Murcia are registered with Spanish Dental Association, known locally as the Consejo General de Colegios Oficiales de odontólogos y estomatólogos de España . A register of all qualified Spanish dentists is held by the Consejo General in Madrid.

Types of Dental Implant Treatment Available in Murcia, Spain

Dental implants have been used since the 1960s to replace individual missing teeth with an adjoining abutment and crown. Since then, the technique has been perfected, with dentists now achieving success rates of between 95% and 98% while pioneering new techniques in terms of where the implants are placed, and how they can restore the function of the whole mouth, rather than individual teeth.

Popular dental implant treatments currently available at our partner clinics in Murcia include:

  • Endosteal dental implants—placed in the jawbone by opening up flaps in the gums.

  • Subperiosteal implants —placed just under the gum line.

  • Zygomatic implants—placed in the zygomatic bone in cases where patients lack viable bone density in the jaw.

  • Zirconia implants (non-metallic)

  • Implant-supported partial bridge(s)—replacing several missing teeth side-by-side

  • Implant-supported full-arch fixed bridges —such as an All-on-6

  • Removable overdentures on multiple mini implants

  • Immediate loading implants (same-day implants)

How Long Will I Need to Stay in Murcia for Treatment?

Dental implant treatment is a two-stage process:

  1. The first involves the actual surgery (placement of the implants) following consultation and evaluation. A temporary crown or bridge will be placed for the next four months, known as the “healing period”.

  1. The second stage, which will require a follow-up trip to Murcia, involves the final restoration being affixed to the implant(s), which will have by now fused to the bone, provide a stable anchor.

For each trip, plan to be in Spain for between three and five days.

Murcia Travel Information

Alicante less than an hour away, the Region of Murcia has stayed somewhat under the international tourist radar, especially when compared to popular spots like Benidorm or Malaga.

The region’s namesake capital city, however, is certainly worth a few days of your holiday time, even if you plan to spend most of your stay soaking up the sun on the nearby Costa Cálida coastline.

The city is home to an impressive cathedral that combines Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic architecture; there’s Bishops Palace, a striking red building with an idyllic courtyard; while Casino of Murcia, a members club is also worth a wander if you’re into eclectic architectural styles and history.

A special mention should also be given to the port city of Cartagena, famous for its Roman ruins that are amongst the most impressive in Spain.
